How the Steal Mechanic Works
When another player catches a notable fish, an interact prompt may appear near their catch area or aquarium display. Approaching the prompt and activating it attempts to steal the fish for your own collection. Stolen fish transfer to your inventory, bypassing the normal fishing grind for that species.
Not every fish is stealable at every moment — timing, server rules, and catch status affect availability. High-tier mutated catches from other players are the most valuable steal targets.
Stealing Strategies
- Monitor populated servers for players who just caught rare or mutated fish.
- Move quickly to the interact prompt before the window closes.
- Prioritize S-tier and A-tier mutated catches over Common steals.
- Use boat speed upgrades to reach steal targets faster on large maps.
- Play during peak hours when more players create more steal opportunities.
- Balance stealing sessions with your own bomb throwing for steady income.
Protecting Your Own Catches
Deposit valuable catches into your aquarium immediately after catching them. The steal mechanic works both ways — other players can target your rare fish if you leave them exposed. Collect and secure Diamond and Golden catches before celebrating.
On competitive servers, be aware that displaying ultra-rare fish may attract steal attempts. Some players prefer private servers for safe collection building.
